Abstract

1,218,534. Battery cover. GOULDNATIONAL BATTERIES Inc. 20 Jan., 1969 [6 May, 1968], No. 3109/69. Heading H1B. A cover 15 for a thermoplastic storage battery container divided into cells by vertical partition walls 12, the container and walls being formed in a single moulding operation, contains circular openings 22 through which the battery terminal posts 11 extend, the diameter of the opening being smaller than that of the post to provide an interference fit, an annular elastic bushing 26, made of rubber for example, coaxial with opening 22 and resting on the underside of cover 15 its diameter being smaller than that of the opening to provide a liquid-tight seal, and a locking arrangement comprising a keyway such as a plastics skirt 23 extending downward from the cover and which partially encircles the bushing, a notch 24 being provided for receiving a tab 25 which extends radially outward from the lower end of the terminal post. The container and cover are preferably made of polypropylene. The cover is provided with grooves such as 16a, formed by ridges 17, and lead-in members 20 for guiding the tops of the partitions and container walls into the grooves for forming a liquid-tight closure when sealed by heat and pressure. The end walls 10a and partitions 12 are preferably strengthened by tapered supporting ribs 14.
