Abstract

1,218,351. Aerials. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 Jan., 1968 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 4635/67. Heading H4A. In a Cassegrain aerial system having a primary feed 1, a sub-reflector 22, and a main reflector 13, said sub-reflector has a central portion of conical form, a region of concave curvature in axial section adjacent and around said central portion, and a region of convex curvature in axial section adjacent and around said region of concave curvature. The semi-angle # of said central conical portion may be from 75 to 88 degrees, and a further region of concave curvature in axial section may be adjacent to, and lie around, said region of convex curvature. The shaping of the sub-reflector 22 in this way modifies the distribution of energy over the surface of the main reflector 13, and a central portion A-A<SP>1</SP> thereof, upon which substantially no energy is directed, may be omitted. A prior art arrangement is described in which a conical dielectric member extends from a primary feed horn to the surface of a sub-reflector (Fig. 3, not shown).
