[Also in Division F4] A mirror system e.g. for concentrating solar energy (see Division F4) comprises two systems of reflective surfaces, each producing the effect of a two-dimensional concave curvature, one system which has a greater focal length serves as a collector system and the second system which is positioned at a point located at a distance from the focal line of the collector system equal to its own focal length acts as a secondary reflector system, the effective focal lines of the two systems being normal to each other. As shown, the secondary reflector 3 is smaller than the collector 2 and is positioned above the collector. The curvature of both reflecting surfaces corresponds to a parabola although the curvature need not lie about any line of symmetry ( Fig. 3 not shown) of the complete parabola. Both systems may be mounted on tracks and they may also be tiltable in any direction. In an embodiment, the reflecting surfaces comprise a number of relatively narrow flat reflecting members placed end to end to approach in effect a parabola (Fig. 4 not shown). These reflecting members may be so mounted that the curvature of the parabola may be altered to any desired shape.
