Abstract
1,006,218. Aerials. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Dec. 7, 1961 [Dec. 27, 1960], No. 43805/61. Heading H4A. Relates to radio aerials based on the Cassegrainian telescope. According to the invention intermediate reflector 20, Fig. 1, reflects circularly-polarized signals having a given direction of rotation and transmits those having an opposite direction of rotation. In one embodiment the feed horn is surmounted by an ellipsoidal reflector 12 one focus of which is at the vertex of the horn and the other at the centre of hole 22 on the longitudinal axis of the main reflector 16; an alternative arrangement includes a plane mirror between reflector 12 and hole 22, Figs. 4A, 4B (neither shown). The intermediate reflector 20 is illustrated in Figs. 3A and 3B; it is composed of square waveguide sections, e.g. 28, the cross-sections of which are staggered to form an approximately spherical surface 30. Each section 28 consists of the three parts illustrated in Fig. 3C. Specification 1,006,219 is referred to.
