Abstract

1,214,290. Automatic door closer. DORKEN & MANKEL K.G. 11 Sept., 1969 [13 Sept., 1968], No. 44954/69. Heading E2M. In an automatic door closer the opening of the door rotates shaft 12 and causes cam 13 to bear against one of rollers 17 on slide 15 whereby slide 15, rods 24, bridge 28, tongues 35 and vertical roller 36 are moved away from shaft 12, thereby compressing springs 25 between slide 15 and stationary member 26. Piston 33, in cylinder 32, follows roller 36 under the action of spring 34, and draws damping fluid from housing 10 into cylinder 32 through a non-return valve. To close the door springs 25 push slide 15 towards shaft 12, thus rotating cam 13 and shaft 12. The closing motion is damped by the piston and cylinder assembly. The initial compression of springs 25, and hence the door-closing speed, can be adjusted by threaded spindle 29.
