Abstract
1,213,639. Valves. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 18 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 57348/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions B1-B2] Furnace exhaust gas is delivered into a plenum chamber 12 and passes through orifices 16, (18) into fibreglass filter bags 20, (22), through which it is discharged to atmosphere, past valves 24, (26), each comprising a damper 28 which normally rests in the open position shown but is slidable up rod 36, under the pressure of an increased flow through orifice 16 resulting from bag 20 bursting, to close orifice 16. Thereafter filtering flow continues through the other bags, and damaged bag 20 which is mounted accessibly outside chamber 12 may be replaced. Means (not shown) may be provided to clamp the damper in its closed position, and hand hole 32 is provided so that, after replacing a bag, the damper 28 may be pushed down to permit flow through the new bag. Nuts 38 are adjustable to vary the gap between orifice 16 and damper 28 in the open position. Rod 36 is supported by three steel straps 40, 42. Dimensions of a typical valve are exemplified.
