Abstract

700,782. Gas filters. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. May 21, 1951, No. 11840/51. Class 8 (2). A gas filtering apparatus into which dustladen gas is drawn by a fan 6, Fig. 1, comprises one or more sleeves 12 each having one end secured to a rigid support e.g., a hopper 15 and the other end closed by the movable end plate 2 of a bellows 3 which communicates with one or other of alternate sources of pneumatic pressure e.g., through a valve 5 to atmosphere or a valve 4 to the inlet of the fan 6 to effect relaxing or tensioning of each sleeve 12 according to whether the bellows 3 are under a pressure greater or less than the ambient pressure outside the bellows. The valves 4, 5 are operated sequentially to effect the sleeve shaking as are valves 13, 14 to effect a reverse flow of air through the sleeves 12. In a modification the bellows 3 instead of being contracted by the fan 6 are connected to an auxiliary fan through the valve 4. In a further modification the bellows are normally held retracted by a spring 10, Fig. 4, and are extended to effect sleeve shaking by exhaust from the fan 6 or from an auxiliary fan.
