Abstract
1,179,433. Valves. HART-CARTER CO. 20 March, 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 12898/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] The flow of compressed air from an inlet 17, supplied by a source 14, to an outlet 16 is controlled by a main, diaphragm-type valve 10, the outlet being connected to a tube 18 closed at its free end and having intermediate its ends an aperture 20, the flow of air from this aperture being in the form of a shock-wave. Pressure within the inlet line 12 is transmitted via a duct 26 to the upper side of the diaphragm 22, so forcing it to close the passage between the inlet 17, and outlet 16, as well as to a bleed passage 28 the outer end of which is disposed within a pilot valve 30 and terminates in a nozzle 40. A piston-type closure member 42, attached to a pilot diaphragm 32, is forced to seat on the nozzle by a pressurized air jet 56 issuing continuously from a nozzle 48 and acting on the pilot diaphragm. Upon this jet being interrupted (Fig. 2, not shown), as by an element 52, pressure within the passage 28 unseats piston 42 and is relieved to atmosphere via an aperture 46 so permitting the main diaphragm 22 to be unseated and compressed air to flow into the tube 18. Regular interruption of the jet 56 may be effected by an arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) comprising a cup shaped member (66) having upstanding flanges projecting from its rim. Relative rotation of member (66) and the pilot valve 30 results in the flanges successively interrupting the jet.
