Abstract
1,213,078. Explosive compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES OF AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND Ltd. 12 Aug., 1969 [6 Sept., 1968], No. 40311/69. Heading ClD. A gelatin type dynamite composition comprises 8-18À5% by weight of a liquid explosive nitric ester, 0À2-1% by weight of nitrocellulose, an inorganic oxidizing agent, a carbonaceous combustible material, and, as a plasticity promoting agent, a condensation product of 2-12 moles of ethylene oxide with one mole of an alkyl phenol, an alkyl cresol, a long-chain alcohol or a derivative thereof, a long chain amine or carboxylic acid, or an amide or alkylolamide of a long chain carboxylic acid. Many suitable ethylene oxide-reactive compounds are given. The oxidizing agent may be ammonium nitrate or sodium nitrate, the nitric ester nitroglycerine, and the carbonaceous material asphalt, naphthalene, sugar, urea, hexamethylene tetramine, sawdust, wood meal, wheat or tamarind flour, dextrin, or starch. Optional ingredients are water, guar gum, calcium carbonate, china clay, barytes, ammonium phosphate, o-nitrotoluene, and polyacrylamide. The presence of the plasticity promoting agent permits reduction in the amount of nitric ester and increase in the amount of oxidizing agent. The composition may be extruded into paper shells to form cartridges.
