Abstract

1,212,921. Automatic brake release valve. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE (AUSTRALASIA) PTY. Ltd. 3 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 493/68. Heading F2F. A valve 5 contains a pressure-responsive member such as a diaphragm 8 subjected to brake pipe 1 pressure on one side through an inlet 9, and to pressure from, for example, an auxiliary reservoir 2 on the other side through an inlet 11, the diaphragm acting on a seal member 14, 15 such that, provided the brake pipe is pressurized, the reservoir 2 is sealed from the atmosphere at 19, but if the brake pipe is at atmospheric pressure, the seal 14, 15 once opened, by, for example, knocking a lever 16, will remain open to vent the reservoir to the atmosphere. The reservoir 2 is connected to a triple valve 4 which controls a brake cylinder 3. A light spring 18 holds the seal member 14, 15 open until brake pipe pressure at 9 is reestablished.
