Air drawn into the crank chamber by the motion of the piston is expelled partly through holes b<5> in the trunk and partly through the piston head and holes a<6> in the cylinder wall. In single-acting engines, the inner walls b<12> of the piston and a<11>, a<12> of the cylinder are dispensed with.
