Abstract

120,839. Saunders, A. March 4, 1918. Addition to 20733/14, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.]. Spray carburettors.-A carburettor of the kind described in the parent Specification is modified by employing a double-seated valve as B, Fig. 2, with a variable groove H through which the petrol passes from the inlet A to a chamber L from which it issues in the form of a spray past a variable groove N in a screw 0 which is adjustable and held in position by a look-nut 7. In normal working the valve B is raised from its seat G against the action of a spring D by the action of the suction of the engine on a disk C on the stem K of the valve B. The valve is normally pressed on its seat by the action of the spring 0 on a loosely fitting collar E, the tension of the spring being adjustable by a stop-screw F fitted with a lock-nut 5. During the normal working a certain amount of petrol can pass the collar E and spindle K and this is of use mainly during the slow running of the engine. The extent to which the valve opens depends on the position of a cam 2, Fig. 3, against which the disk C is raised by the suction, and this cam 2 is controlled from a sleeve T which controls the air inlets, the cam 2 being automatically set to correspond to this setting by means of adjustable links X, X<1>, which actuate the shaft Z of the cam 2.
