A passive-tank stabilizer has its tank 12 partially filled with liquid (not shown) and furnished with plates 14 pivoted on vertical rods 16 so that they can be operated in the manner of louvres by a gyroscopic unit 20 and motors 18 to obtain optimum oscillation of the liquid in response to rolling of the vessel wherein the stabilizer is lodged athwartships in the usual fashion.
