In a stabilizing tank with a longitudinal axis adapted to extend parallel to the roll axis of a vessel, the cross-sectional area of the tank in planes perpendicular to said longitudinal axis is smaller at the longitudinal ends of the tank than at the longitudinal mid-point thereof, the tank being at least partly filled with liquid to damp rolling motion about said longitudinal axis.
