Abstract

1,125,001. Liquid-storage tanks. BRAITHWAITE & CO.. ENGS., Ltd. 24 Feb., 1965 [27 Nov., 1963], No. 46807/63. Heading E1T. A container for liquids comprises hollow units 11, each of which contains or can contain liquid and has its own distinct side walls, disposed side-by-side, with the hollow interiors of at least some units mutually communicating by aligned holes in the walls, the units being connected by restraining means, the side walls of adjacent units when they contain liquid bearing directly or indirectly against each other. The interiors of some or all of the units 11 may communicate by tubular connectors 22 forming ties between the units. The walls may be spaced by washers 23 at the connectors, but may be flexible enough so that in use parts flex to touch. Flanges on the washers 23 may be disposed between adjacent units with or without washers or they may be inside the units, the washers being therebetween. The units 11 may be polygonal in place and may be adhesively secured together. The units 11 may be sealed to each other to form a side or sides of a tank for liquid, being also sealed to a tank base. Tie bars may be used to strengthen the sides of the tank when full. Additionally, or alternatively, a strap may extend around the unit 11. The walls of some, or all of the units 11 facing the interior or the outside of the tank may be partcylindrical and bowed outwards.
