A vessel's passive stabilization system comprises an elongated enclosed tank or enclosure having energy dissipating means near opposite ends thereof, such means comprising an upright member extending transversely across the enclosure and spaced from the bottom thereof, the enclosure being partly filled with a body of liquid having a static level above the bottom of the member whereby the 'transfer of liquid from end to end of the enclosure in response to the rolling of the vessel is damped by the energy dissipating means so that the liquid provides a stabilizing moment in opposition to the roll of the vessel.
