A surgical dressing comprises two layers R and T of absorbent material, one R of which is formed with an aperture 3 and a slit 4 extending from the aperture to an edge of the layer, the other layer T being arranged to extend over the slit when in use The layers may be joined along an edge of the dressing or formed by folding a single sheet, the slit extending to another edge. The dressing is adapted in use to extend round a tubular object extending from the body, e.g. a tracheotomy tube.
