Abstract
1,206,286. Working at specified temperatures; straightening. TREFILERIES & CABLERIES DE BOURG & DU HAVRE. 2 Oct., 1967 [4 Oct., 1966], No. 44846/67. Headings B3E and B3V. Carbon steel wire or the like is straightened by first subjecting the wire to a patenting operation, i.e. austenitization at 850-950‹ C., followed by rapid cooling to 400-550‹ C., after which it is cold worked and then straightened by alternate bending operations carried out in different planes at a temperature higher than ambient but lower than the recrystallization temperature of the steel. The wire is straightened by heating it to 200-500‹ C. by an induction coil 3 (or by the passage of an electric current therealong, gas burners or a molten metal bath) and passing it through straightening rollers 4, 5, after which it is cooled at 6 and wound on to a reel 7. The straightened wire may be used for springs or pre-stressed concrete.
