Abstract

1,205,867. Latches; engaging flanges. L. McBRINE CO. Ltd. 13 Nov., 1968 [26 Aug., 1968], No. 53727/68. Headings E2A and E2F. The latch mechanism of a luggage case is located in the inner channel of an H-shaped aluminium beading 16 of the body 12 of the case, while the manual unlatching knob 30 slides in the outer channel. The lid 14 of the case has keepers 20 projecting from beading 18 and each entering a hole 22 to engage the head 45 of a spring-loaded latch-bolt 24 located in a slidable carrier 32 secured to the knob 30 by screw 34 and captive sheet-metal nut 38. The latch-bolt is moved to its releasing position by right-ward movement of the knob and carrier unit. The latch may be locked by moving a resilient dead-bolt 52 into hole 66; see Fig. 3, 'by means of a key 58 inserted at hole 57. The bolt is located by detent-notches in a bar 50. The edge-beading may be moulded integrally with the case-shell. The case hinge, Fig. 7 consists of extruded aluminiumm sections 70, 72, one of which wraps round a beading on the other by more than 180‹.
