Abstract

120,478. Harris, J. R., and Jennings, L. M. Dec. 15, 1917. Metallic spring bodies and cores.-Separate metal shoes 25 bound by circumferential tread chains 28 are supported by helical springs 19, arranged and preferably shaped as shown. The springs are assembled through a gap 18 in one of the rim fianges, the last spring to be inserted being clamped by bolts 20, 23 through the adjacent springs to the rim. The shoes 25, which may be outwardly flat or curved, are formed with projections 27, and preferably also with curved seatings 29, to retain the chains 28. The latter are connected by transverse chains 30 arranged between the shoes. The chains 28 are of such a length as to compress the springs in assemblage; flexible shields may be fitted between the shoes and the rim 14.
