1151. Richner, H. E. Jan. 16. Tread bands, projections, and surfaces; tyre attachments to rims.-Elastic tyres are protected by spring metal plates 8 embracing the tyres and arranged close together. The plates have re-entrant flanges 10, which bear against the rim flanges, curved sides 11, which bear on the rim edges, and flanged extensions 13, which have semicircular recesses 21 at each end. The plates are secured by continuous or sectional rings 14, which are shaped to fit the sides and the edges of the plates, and are secured by bolts 19 passing through the felloes at intervals through the holes formed by the recesses 21 between some of the pairs of plates. The wearing-surfaces of the plates may be roughened or formed with projections, and the plates may be covered by an external rubber, canvas, or other band, the edges of which engage between the plates and the rings 14.
