Tread bands, projections, and surfaces; tyreattachments to rims.-A protective tread for a pneumatic tyre comprises deep sections a of rubber &c. shaped to cover the width of the tyre and provided with two or more leather, metal, or other straps, which pass through them and terminate in hooks d engaging the rim f. The straps are positively secured to the sections by bolts g, the heads and nuts of which lie in recesses j, k. The wearing surfaces may be flat and wide, as shown in Fig. 2, and provided with circumferential and oblique grooves, or they may be round and smooth. In the form shown in Fig. 6, metal straps r, in two parts connected by bolts g, are provided with links s, the outer of which have projecting pins v which engage under slotted flanges x formed on the edges of an ordinary rim w.
