Abstract
1,203,011. Combined turbines and fans. FERDINAND SPITZNAS MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Feb.10, 1969 [Feb.8, 1968], No.7060/69. Heading FIT. An axial-flow fan for aerating oil tanks, ship's holds, pump rooms &c., has turbine blades 6 disposed at the periphery of the fan blades 4 and driven by one or more jets 8, (9), Fig. 2 (not shown) in each of whose supply duct or ducts are disposed a blow-off valve 10 and a pressure reducer 11. There may be two jets 8, (9) disposed generally tangentially of the turbine and diametrically opposite, jet 8 being selectively supplied with compressed air whilst the other jet (9) is selectively supplied with steam. Air exhausting from the turbine blades 6 mixes with the air-stream impelled by the fan blades 4 but exhaust steam is not so mixed. Each blow-off valve 10 is set to open at a pressure slightly higher than the pressure setting of its associated reducer 11. A surrounding casing 1 is made of non-ferrous metal so that no sparks can occur when the casing is applied to a tank aperture. The casing has a strainer 2.
