Abstract

1493008 Gas turbine plant-cooling BROWN BOVERI-SULZER TURBOMASCHINEN AG 15 May 1975 [28 June 1974] 20565/75 Headings F1G and FIT The invention relates to a gas turbine plant in which cooling fluid is supplied to ducts within the turbine stator blades, discharging therefrom through openings in the blade surface, there being means for preventing the openings from becoming blocked. The turbine of a gas turbine plant is shown in Fig. 2, the turbine comprising a blade carrier 5' in which stator blades 19 are mounted, a rotor 4 carrying rotor blades 20 and a gas inlet duct 11. The blade carrier 5' is disposed within a stator casing (not shown in Fig. 2) so as to define an annular space 10 to which air is delivered from the compressor, some air flowing through ducts 21 and and so to ducts 21 within the stator blades 19, the air discharging from the ducts 21 through openings 22 on to the surface of the blade as a cooling film. Air or vapour under pressure from a reservoir 16 or blower may be passed through duct 15 and discharge nozzle 18 into the blade ducts 21 to discharge through the blade openings 22; this supply of air or vapour is controlled by valve 17, fluid being supplied at engine starting when there is a possibility that unburned fuel may be passing with the working fluid flowing through the turbine, such unburned fuel otherwise tending to block the openings 22.
