Abstract

979,617. Hydrofoil craft propulsion. BELL AEROSPACE CORPORATION. Aug. 22, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 32204/62. Headings B7A and B7V. [Also in Division F1] A hydrofoil craft is propelled by the exhaust from a gaseous jet engine 26 and also by the exhaust from an hydraulic jet unit 50 which is driven by the exhaust turbine 70 of the engine 26. The hydrofoil strut 24 supports a centrifugal pump unit 50, having an inlet and outlet, which is driven directly through the shaft 72 by the turbine 70. The jet engine 26 has an air inlet 38 and gas outlet 46 and is disposed in a separate duct 80 which has a separate air inlet 82 and an outlet 94 to discharge the propulsion gases which comprise the engine exhaust plus air drawn through the duct 80. A further hydraulic unit 100 may be disposed just below the hull bottom surface.
