Abstract

1,202,520. After-treatment of workpieces. LANCY LABORATORIES Inc. April 14, 1969 [Sept.23, 1968], No.19062/69. Heading C7U. Toxic Cr or Cu compounds in an aqueous dragout solution on workpieces having a surface of Cr, Cu, Cu alloy or chromium compound are reduced and precipitated by applying a solution containing hydrazine hydrate to the workpieces. The workpieces may be of Zn, Cd, Al, Mg, Cu, Cu alloy, Ag or Sn having a chromate conversion coating thereon, and on treatment with the hydrazine, hexavalent Cr in the drag-out is reduced, along with any other higher valent salts, giving rise to greater ease of precipitation on neutralizing the solution. The reconditioned hydrazine solution may be recycled.
