Abstract

A top tin plating is galvanomechanically plated onto zinc, cadmium, tin or aluminium ferrous or other metal articles by immersing the articles in a rotatable drum, in the absence of a metal which possesses a solution potential greater than that of the previously applied protective metal, in a plating mixture comprising water, impact media, a water-soluble tin salt, an acid-reacting agent to render the pH of the mixture such that it will dissolve some of the protective metal, and rotating the container until a corrosion-resistant plating of tin is formed on the articles. The protective metal plating may be applied to the metal articles in an otherwise conventional manner, for example by impact plating powdered protective metal such as zinc onto the articles.
