A plating bath for Fe and steel articles comprises: - Pb 75 - 92% Sn 7 - 15% Sb 0 - 15% Cd 0À05 - 7% and/or Zn from 0À1% to its solubility limit in Pb. The articles may be pre-treated with an aqueous solution of ZnCl 2 and NH 4 Cl.
