Abstract

1281633 Fused metal coatings on steel USUI KOKUSAI SANSYO K K 10 Feb 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 6330/70 Heading C7F A steel substrate e.g. a pipe, is coated with Pb or Pb base alloy and then hot dipped in molten Sn-Cd at a temperature sufficient to form an alloy between the Sn-Cd and Pb. The coating temperature should be just below the melting temperature of the Pb or Pb base alloy. The molten coating bath preferably contains by weight 63-73 parts Sn and 22-32 parts Cd, optionally with less than 10 parts Zn, Sb or Bi. Excess coating of the Sn-Cd may be removed by a wiper so that the fused layer is the outer layer. The steel pipe may be coated with Cu prior to coating with the Pb or Pb base alloy.
