Abstract
1,201,237. Push button door handle. I. C. MILLER and J. H. MILLER. 10 Feb., 1969, No. 7102/69. Heading E2A. Door furniture comprises a main supporting plate 11 for mounting on one side of a door and a handle 15 mounted on the plate, the handle having a spring loaded push-button 16 slidably mounted therein and having a larger part 21 and a smaller part 22, the plate having a keyhole shaped slot having a first portion 13 of greater width than the second part 12, the dimensions of the slot being such that when the button 16 is pressed the larger part 21 thereof is capable of passing through the larger portion of the slot but not through the smaller portion, the handle 15 being supported on the plate for movement along the smaller portion 12 of the slot, after the larger part 21 has passed through the larger portion 13, to be positioned adjacent a plunger 24, which plunger when depressed by further depression of the push buton releases latching means 24 adapted to be mounted on the other side of the door. The plate 11 may be of metal or plastics and is provided with a locating tube 23, positioned beside the smaller portion 12 of the slot, which passes through a hole in the door. Grooves 27 are provided in the plate and co-operate with spring pressed balls 28 in the handle to facilitate the sliding motion of the handle. In another embodiment, (Figs. 5-8, not shown) the plate has a transverse keyhole slot disposed opposite one leg of a U-shaped handle, that leg being provided with the push button. The other leg is rotatably secured to the plate to permit the handle to be swung therearound to provide the necessary movement of the button along the axis of the slot.
