Abstract

1,200,513. Electric couplings. AMP Inc. 18 Feb., 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 12436/68. Heading H2E. An electrical connector for use with the hightension circuit of a motor vehicle comprises a body 1 of insulating plastics with a conductive coating 7, e.g. copper to electrically connect a high-tension lead 6 to a socket 10 of a H.T. coil/distributer, or alternatively a spark plug 5. A circumferential projection 2 on the body forms a plug part to engage in the socket 10, and a socket part 3 is adapted to receive a plug portion 5. The coating 7 may be done by plating or by electroless methods and may be done selectively on parts of the connector surface to provide electrical continuity between selected parts and to conserve the plating material; an outer layer of chrome, silver or gold may be used to ensure low contact resistance. As shown, the socket part 3 and the socket 4 are blind holes, but a through hole may be formed instead. There may be several plug parts formed on a surface of the body and several socket parts formed therein, and the sockets may be provided with locking parts to co-operate with mating plugs having latching means. The connector may be used in other high-voltage, low-current applications.
