[Also in Divisions C1 and F4] An igniting means comprises one or more small capsules, each consisting of a jointless, airtight, easily rupturable shell containing a fluid pyrophonic substance. The capsules may be applied by means of a binder to a cigarette, cigarillo, or cigar; when struck against a friction surface, the shell of the capsules is destroyed and the pyrophonic substance ignites; alternatively the friction surface may include the capsules. Apart from friction, the shells may also be ruptured by pressure, blows, or heat. The capsules may be made from glass, polyparaxylylene polyvinyl fluoride, or polytrifluorochloroethylene and may contain a solution in pentane or ethyl acetate of diethyl zinc, or trimethyl or triethyl aluminium as the pyrophonic liquid. In examples, molten polyethylene and a solution of polymethyl methacrylate in acetons are used to make capsules containing triethyl boron. Gaseous or low viscosity pyrophoric substances, e.g. trimethyl boron, may be enclosed in porous alumina spheres before coating with the plastics material. A number of capsules may be enclosed in a common outer shell.
