Abstract

1,065,204. Tobacco smoke filters. H-2-O FILTER CORPORATION. Nov. 25, 1965 [Dec. 15, 1964], No. 50052/65. Heading A2C. A cigarette filter comprises a container or capsule 13 which is frangible by squeezing or applying pressure to the filter and which contains a non-noxious liquid, and, adjacent the container or capsule, a filter element 15<SP>1</SP> of absorbent material disposed so as to be moistened upon breaking of the container or capsule. A further element 15 of absorbent material may be incorporated at the mouth end of the filter and both elements may be bounded by dry wads 19. The inside of the wall 18 of the recess 12 housing the capsule 13, is provided with a non-pervious or sponge band 14. The filter is joined to a tobacco length 26. The elements 15, 15<SP>1</SP> may be of sponge material which expand on contact with the liquid in the capsule. Alternatively a cork disc may replace the sponge element 15<SP>1</SP> and adjacent wad 19 and the element 15 may also be omitted, Fig. 6 (not shown). In this embodiment the recess 12 may be filled with expansible material, Fig. 5 (not shown).
