Abstract
1,196,977. Two-part couplings. MOLEX PRODUCTS CO. 25 Oct., 1967, No. 48564/67. Heading H2E. Plug and socket contacts, which are mounted in respective inter-engaging insulating housings (82, 88, Fig. 11, not shown) are each formed from resilient metal with an open longitudinal seam 30 whose rear corners 52 are bent outwardly for engaging shoulders (95, 95a, Fig. 9, not shown) in the housings, resilient tongues 40 on the contacts engaging further housing shoulders (94, 98). Insertion of the plugs in the sockets causes contraction of the plugs and expansion of the sockets, the metal of the plugs having a greater thermal expansion coefficient than that of the sockets to maintain good contact on increase of temperature. Wings 50 and outwardly-directed ribs and flanges 60, 56 engage the walls of bores in the housings to stabilize the contacts. Each contact includes sections 66, 72 for gripping the conductor and insulation of a lead wire, the sections 66 having slots 74 with sharp edges which bite into the material of the conductor to which the section 66 is crimped.
