Abstract

1,196,735. Yarn package. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 July, 1967 [4 Aug., 1966], No.34980/66. Heading B8M. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for producing a yarn package by over-end winding wherein there are means to vary the speed of delivery of yarn to the package so as to prevent pattern winding on the package. The apparatus is particularly applicable to a ring and traveller device wherein it is tilted at a small angle to the axis of the spindle. Preferably the means comprise a guide which engages the yarn and is traversed, e.g. by an eccentric arrangement to cyclically vary the yarn's path length to the package. In addition, a long term variation may be given to the spindle speed or the spindle speed may be changed between two or more values. The apparatus is used to produce a package having tapered ends made up of helical turns on which is superimposed a sinusoidal waveform the wavelength of which varies cyclically throughout the package, the maximum angle which the yarn makes to its mean angle of lay in each waveform being at least 0À1 degree.
