Abstract

1,196,010. Metallizing a vinyl chlorideethylene copolymer. DYNAMIT NOBEL A. G. Dec. 29, 1967 [Dec. 30, 1966], No.59175/67. Headings C7B and C7F. A shaped vinyl chloride-ethylene copolymer is metallized by sensitizing and activating e.g. with stannous chloride and silver nitrate, depositing a metal by chemical reduction of a metal salt solution and applying a further metal coating by electro-deposition. The chemically reduced metal layer may be Cu and/or Ni and/or Ag and the electro-deposited coating may be Cu, Cr, Ag, Au, Ni. The copolymer may first be degreased with NaOH and pickled chromosulphuric acid. Cu may be electro-deposited from an aqueous CuSO 4 - H 2 SO 4 bath using a voltage of 0‹5 volt.
