A liquid fuel burner has a refractory body 9 with a concave surface 10 upon which the fuel is burned, fuel being supplied through pipe connections 3 and bores 4 to openings 7 in a metal body 5 and combustion air being supplied under pressure through a pipe connection 1 and bores 2 to outlets 6, the outlets 6, 7 being covered by a member 8 which conducts the air jet in the direction of the tangent of surface 10 and causes the liquid fuel to spread out into a thin film on the surface 10. Vanes 11 may be provided to swirl the air.
