Abstract
1,193,956. Condensation of steam; turbine plant. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 22 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966; 9 Dec., 1966], Nos. 37888/66 and 55230/66. Heading B1B. [Also in Division F1] In power plant Wherein a steam turbine has at least two steam exhaust outlets each connected to a direct-contact condenser, the condensers being arranged at different levels and the cooling-water flowing through them in series, the uppermost condenser is arranged at the level of the steam exhaust outlet to which it is connected. In the plant shown, steam exhausts at both ends of turbine cylinder 11 through separate hoods 14, 15. A pair of direct-contact condensers 17 are arranged one on each side of hood 14, but hood 15 leads to a direct-contact condenser 24 at a lower level. Dual-flow turbine cylinder 11 operates at low pressure, and is mounted on the same shaft as high-pressure turbine cylinder 10 and alternator 13. Each condenser 17 has a cooling-water inlet 18 feeding waterbox 19 which is provided with spray nozzles 20. The cooling-water, and the condensate formed thereby, flow from condensers 17 through pipes 22 to the waterboxes 23 of condenser 24, which has an outlet 25.
