Abstract

Surface condensers.-In order to obtain steam conditions appropriate to the different velocities along the length of the low pressure blades the last stage of the low pressure blading is divided into two or more concentric sections 4, 5 and each of these sections has associated with it a condenser or condenser section, and the cooling water flows first through that condenser section 8 associated with the outer section 4 of the blades, then to the condenser section 10 corresponding to the next annular section 5 of the blading, and so on. The condensate is removed from a U-tube 18 connecting the sections by a pump 19. A portion of the condensate may pass by a pipe 21 and mix with water from a pipe 22 passing to a jet condenser 17 receiving steam and air exhausted from the condenser sections 8, 10 by ejectors 16. Airfrom the jet condenser 17 is removed by an ejector 23 while the water passes to the section 10 by a U-tube 25 and is removed thence by the pump 19.
