Abstract

1,127,546. Boiler feedwater systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 20 March, 1967 [15 April, 1966], No. 12910/67. Heading F4A. [Also in Divisions B1 and F1] In a steam power plant comprising waterboiler 1, high-pressure turbine 2, low-pressure turbine 3, and condenser 4, water which has been preheated by passing it through the cooling-coil 5 of condenser 4 is partially evaporated by spraying the preheated water through nozzle 29 into cylinder 24 through which is flowing a stream of superheated steam produced by passing wet steam from turbine 3 into the inlet 20 of a conduit 17 containing swirl vanes 18, mounted on flow-guiding member 19, which cause the steam to flow in a vortex and become superheated before it reaches cylinder 24. Part of the preheated water vaporizes in cylinder 24, and the unevaporated portion separates out through annular slot 25 into chamber 26, from which it is withdrawn by pump 28. The flow of steam leaving cylinder 24 is straightened by de-swirl blades 22, and passed via heat-exchangers 9, 8 to condenser 4. The condensate is pumped through heatexchangers 8, 9 and deaerator 10 into heatexchangers 11, 12, in which it is heated by heat-exchange with steam bled off from turbines 2, 3; and the heated condensate flows from heat-exchanger 12 to boiler 1.
