Abstract

1370321 Tubular air-cooled steam condensers GKN BIRWELCO Ltd 4 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 4472/71 Addition to 1196462 Heading F4S An air-cooled steam condenser comprises substantially horizontal tubes arranged in banks, the tubes of each bank extending between steam inlet and outlet headers, and the banks being disposed as mutually inclined, upwardly converging pairs of said banks; and a steam inlet manifold supplying the inlet headers of the tube banks being disposed below the level of the tops of said banks; e.g. the steam inlet manifold 23 may as shown be disposed below the assembly, or it may be located at a level between the planes 36, 37, Fig. 5. The tube bank assembly may be arranged in a natural draft cooling tower (Figs. 12, 13) or air fans may be provided below the assembly. The steam may flow in either a single or two-pass flow through each tube bank. In the fan-cooled condenser shown the tube bank pairs, are arranged in spaced-apart rows 19-22, the assembly being supported on legs 11 with the fans 27 disposed below the tubes and each fan supplying air to two of the tube bank pairs. Each said pair is served by two fans, Fig. 4, so that an air supply is ensured if one of the fans is not operating. Each tube bank inlet header has two steam supply ducts 26. Condensate is removed via lines 30, 33 and 31, 34 and non-condensible gases are withdrawn via lines 35. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 7 to 11) the steam is supplied to a primary group (B) of the tube bank pair and uncondensed steam from this group is passed through a secondary group (A) of the tube bank pairs.
