Abstract
978,067. Condensing vapours ; power plant. HAPPEL G.m.b.H., [trading as GEA LUFTKUEHLERGESELLSCHAFT HAPPEL G.m.b.H. & CO. KOMM.-GES.]. March 27, 1963 [March 31, 1962], No. 12175/63. Heading B1B. In an air-cooled condenser system comprising a group of downflow condenser elements 4 connected in parallel, and a group of reflux condenser elements 11 connected in parallel, the vapour-to-be-condensed is supplied to the two groups from pipe 3 via distributing pipes 5 and 12 respectively, a valve 6 being provided in pipe 5 so that the downflow elements can be shut off from pipe 3. The condenser elements may take the form of parallel-spaced, finned tubes, each group of elements having a separate fan for blowing cooling air over the outside surfaces of the tubes. The system is suitable for the condensation of steam from turbine 2 ; for in cold weather only the reflux elements are kept in operation, thus obviating the risk of ice-formation. A partial vacuum is applied by pump 9 and pipe 8 at the lower ends of the downflow elements and at the upper ends of the reflux elements. The condensate is collected, via pipes 7 and 13, in tank 14 which has an overflow pipe 15 leading to tank 16. A pressure-equalization pipe 19 extends between pipe 3 and tank 16. Tank 14 can be connected to either pipe 19 or to vacuum pump 9 via pipes 18 and 17, respectively. A pump 22 is connected to tank 16 to supply the condensate via a degasifier to the feed tank of the turbine. Specification 900,407 is referred to.
