Abstract
1,193,443. Developing electrostatic images. RANK XEROX Ltd. July 18, 1967 [July 21, 1966(4)], No.32868/67. Heading G2H. An apparatus for developing latent electrostatic images comprises an inclined shoot positioned below and apart from a latent electrostatic image bearing member, supply means for introducing developer material to the upper end of the shoot, collection means for receiving the developer material from the shoot, and vibratory means for vibrating the shoot to fluidize the developer material. A xerographic belt 20, Fig. 1, is passed through a development zone 42 within a housing 82. An endless belt conveyor 90 having buckets 94 transparts developer to a station 88 where it is cascaded through an input shoot 106 above a vibrating plate 108 actuated by a vibrator 132 through a link (122) Fig. 2 (not shown) to fluidize the developer at the zone 72. The plate 108 may be biased by a source 130 to act as a development electrode. In another embodiment a latent image on a drum 210 Fig. 4 (not shown) is developed at a zone (214) backed by an arcuate plate (220). An oscillatory motion about a shaft (212) is imparted to end plates (216) by a linkage (228). Electrode wires 222 span the plates (216). In another embodiment, a developer supporting plate (616) Fig. 10 (not shown) and a screen (626) are reciprocated axially of drum (510) by a motor (632) Fig. 11 (not shown). The screen is earthed or connected to a source (530) of potential.
