Cables.-In making electric cables, the conductors, previously coated with pure rubber, are spaced, insulated and protected by a single covering of tough rubber applied simultaneously with the stranding of the conductors. The tough rubber covering b is applied to the previously coated conductors a in a hot plastic state by a steam jacketed compression screw f, Fig. 4, through which the conductors are fed from the spacing block c which is slowly rotated to give the necessary stranding. The exterior surface of the cable may be ribbed longitudinally to prevent slipping.
