Abstract
428,870. Cable joints; couplings. EDISON SWAN CABLES, Ltd., 155, Charing Cross Road, London, and GALE, F., The Graig, Ross, Herefordshire. Nov. 17, 1933, No. 32130. [Class 38 (i)] The joint between two lengths of leadsheathed cable or between such cable and a terminal is enclosed in a watertight manner by a sleeve of rubber or other insulating composition moulded or vulcanized over the joint. A joint between a soil-heating cable 1, having paper insulation, a lead sheath 2 and a covering 3 of jute or armouring, and the terminal 4 is formed by soldering the conductor 1 into a split shank 7 and moulding thereon a layer of hard rubber 8 and a layer of soft rubber 9 which is then vulcanized. The rubber sleeve encloses the end of the sheath 2 and of the covering 3, the shank 7 and sheath 2 being threaded or scored to increase the adhesion thereto of the sleeve. A multicore cable joint may be provided with individual sleeves for the cores or with a single sleeve, the cores being separated by moulded compound. Specification 217,696, [Class 38 (i)], is referred to.
