Abstract

1,187,576. Moulding wood-resin articles; laminates comprising wood chips. PLEXOWOOD Inc. 12 March, 1969 [12 June, 1968], No. 13069/69. Headings B5A and B5N. A simulated wood article comprises a woodchip resin core covered by a plurality of resinimpregnated paper sheets, the outer surface of the article being pitted to simulate wood grain. The resin may be a phenolic, a polyester, or a melamine. In the particular embodiment the article is made by compression moulding the core and paper layers in a mould, the operative face of which are pitted with a configuration complementing to that of the desired surface of the article. The core may be made in another mould or may be pressed in the same mould, the mould being opened after the pressing of the core, the sheets added and the mould reclosed to apply the final pressure.
