A panel having a stepped surface is moulded from a mixture of wood chips and thermosetting synthetic resin, in a cavity between pressing dies 1, 2, 3 arranged in a stepped formation and operated in such manner that the ratio of the different thicknesses of the moulding material is the same before and after the pressing.
