An article comprises a wood-resin core encased in a phenolic resin envelope and a wood veneer impregnated with a melamine, melamine related, or modified melamine resin bonded to the outer-surface of the envelope. Such an article is made by moulding the core, covering the core with sheets of phenolic resin impregnated paper, covering the paper with wood veneer, covering the veneer with a modified melamine sheet and hot moulding the assembly in a compression mould. A silicone impregnated parting paper and a cushion sheet of Kraft paper are interposed between the assembly and the mould. A table top having a rolled edge may be made in this way.
