Abstract

1332977 Forms of wood NIPPON GAKKI SEIZO KK 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970 21 July 1970] 20704/71 Heading B5L [Also in Division G5] A pin plate for a piano comprises intermediate laminate layers 32 of for example maple wood and an upper and lower laminate layer 341, 342 comprising sheets of hard wood e.g. beech bonded together with thermosetting resin in a cross grained structure. The layers 32 may be bonded with resin or pre-preg sheets 35a-35d, the layers 341, 342 being bonded to the intermediate layers by sheets 35e, 35f. The resin may be phenolic resin. There may be 3 or 5 intermediate layers arranged in a cross cut structure and Fig. 7 (not shown) discloses an arrangement having a central beech layer. The wooden plates of the layer 341, 342 are first dried and then bonded together at a raised temperature. These bonded layers form 13-55% of the pin plate thickness. A thicker sheet of hard wood may be bonded to the outside surfaces of the layers to provide a surface which may be satisfactorily planed to adjust the plate thickness.
