Abstract

1,027,627. Woodworking. AARONSON BROS. Ltd. Oct. 8, 1963 [Oct. 9, 1962], No. 38253/62. Heading B5L. A method of producing a sheet of wood veneer comprises the steps of cutting a plurality of laminations, uniting the laminations using a adhesive to form a block having the grain of all the individual laminations running in parallel, the laminations being similarly bent to form a concavity running along a central portion of one surface of the block in the same direction as the grain of the laminations, and slicing the block with a knife which acts to cut successively across the layers of adhesive to produce sheets of figured veneer having smooth surfaces. The laminations 1 with adhesive, such as synthetic resin, therebetween are placed between the dies of a pressing apparatus, such as that described in Specification 1,107,823, and pressed to set the glue and form a block 6 with a U- or V- shaped concavity and the grain 5 and flower 4 running in the direction shown in Fig. 2. The block is then mounted in a jig 7 of a rotary peeling machine and a veneer 10 peeled from the block by a knife 9. With a veneer so produced, the artificial flower runs substantially parallel to the grain of the wood. Variations in the pattern of the veneer may be obtained by introducing small chippings between the laminations during the production of the block, and by using laminations of differing colours.
